We are in the process of establishing a formal Change Management process and are now looking at putting Lead Times in place based upon the Change Type (Major, Significant, Minor).
I would appreciate it if you could share the Lead Time practices you have in place at your company. (One organization I looked at has the following lead times based on Change Type: Major - 20 business days, Significant - 10 business days, Minor - 3 business days.)
thsi differs from org to org. As kt eh following question. What can the business bear in the way of lead times? Then ask the following - what is the minimum amount of time that change management (and CAB) need to have in order to make an informed decision whether or not to implement a change. Certibally have differet categories if required.
In some placed 3 days was the lead time, others 1 week(5 days) and another 7 days. For major releases it was weeks.
The lead time should facilitate that the process is not rushed and that the management of the change process and seeking approvals etc is given enough time to do this taking into consideration how needy the business is in requiring changes to be made.
Whatever youdecide to go with put the lead time on trial and review it after say 4 weeks to see if it says or if is needs to be adjusted. _________________ Mark O'Loughlin
