Hi Aravind,
Have you already:
* Searched existing threads on this forum where this question is already answered
* Googled on 'ITIL'
* Checked Wikipedia on ITIL
* Looked at sites from OGC, APMG, Exin etc.
I guess not, or you would not have asked this question. Somebody on MBA level ought to be able to do some searching by himself.
Good luck |

Heloo m_croon,
Thank you for the reply...
I have gone through the various threads,googled..etc.I thought of somebody helping me in giving some kinda real time exapmles.
I heard a lot that this course is actually taken by people of some high postion in the companies rather than freshers.So,i want to make my self clear whether is it worth to do such a course at this level.
How well this helps me in building my career???As per my enquiry,i have asked many of my friends...maximum didnt hear this "ITIL" even...so...... |

ITIL is not a course and unless your work is in or borders on IT services then it is of peripheral interest to you. Look at the OGC site to get background. Or at itillibrarydotorg. _________________ "Method goes far to prevent trouble in business: for it makes the task easy, hinders confusion, saves abundance of time, and instructs those that have business depending, both what to do and what to hope."

ITIL can only succeed if it is embedded in an organisations culture. Therefore everyone from the Directory of IT, down to the guy who installs PCs needs an overview of ITIL and the best way to get this is via the foundation course.
I wouldn't recommend that someone with no experience goes on an ITIL course, unless they are wanting to work in an organisation that has at least heard of ITIL, otherwise it would be a waste of your time.
Hoep that helps _________________ Mick Smith

Gogi / Aravind
Why are you at an university studying for your MBA?
ITIL is an IT - computers, etc - body of work that gives order to how a IT Department should run its day-to-day etc endevours
You get certified at taking courses/exams etc in ITIL just like you would for SixSigma, PRINCE2, Accounting, Law, etc
It is useful if you are in IT - either as a technical person or as a managerial type
COmpany uses ITIL Best Practice to help them define and improve the service that comes from IT _________________ John Hardesty

I mean look at the websites I mentioned. That will tell you what ITIL is. You will only get piecemeal information in a forum like this. you clearly need the overview that those and other sites can give you. you do not have enough context for useful dialogue here. _________________ "Method goes far to prevent trouble in business: for it makes the task easy, hinders confusion, saves abundance of time, and instructs those that have business depending, both what to do and what to hope."
