Is the credit crunch affecting the ITIL jobs market?

Around this time last year I just started a new job and in truth it was one of a number of options open to me. This year there seems to be very little in the way of opportunities and the salaries on offer seem to have decreased.

Did not affect me - I am a contractor / IT w***e doing ITIL / Change management

Finished one contract // started a new one.

Took 2 days - inteview monday, decision tuesday

paperwork took longer

BorisBear, i hate to use my trite phrase

it depends

but it depends on the market.

Full time permanent work - yea - I can see slow down...

but us consluting types will always work

Just in general, in the US, the sagging economy is affecting the whole job market in general. I work for a financial services company and while we are in pretty good shape compared to most we are not doing any hiring to make sure our overall overhead is controlled. We are also highly outsourced already and I would suspect that they will be cutting contractor/outsourcing spending before cutting employee jobs. It is one benefit of being highly outsourced, in that you can have a base of highly trained employees for critical and stable roles, while having contractor and outsourced jobs that can fluctuate up and down more easily, relative to these types of changes.
