Compliance - The Endless Discussion

SOX, FDA, HIPAA, Basel II et al, have been the buzz words in enterprises for some time now. The endless debates about compliance and management make one fact crystal-clear- Compliance is a major area of concern, which calls for amendment in the corporate sector, as an immediate requisite.


Ensuring compliance management of production/service quality concurrently, requires that an appropriate compliance strategy is integrated within the company’s operational structure. This can be done using the help of experts in the field, who can provide perspectives and insights in the subject-matter. This can free enterprises of the worry that they may be penalized for non-adherence. What are your thoughts on this?

The issue for me is makign sure that any documetns that i produce in my roles use the relevent compliance material

I use CoBIT as this aids in Sarbanes - Oxley compliance and BASEL II

I am of course undconcerned about GARTERS and OREGANO compliance

Hi Alecia,

Are you familiair with the new ISO 'standard' 38.500 on IT Governance? It is not prescriptive like ISO20K and provides a very brief overview of items important to governance. One of the most important (IMO) being human behaviour. I think this realy points out what makes the difference between (un)succesfull implementation / use of governance.

I go to ISACA for CoBIT, ITGI etc
I go the other sites - OGC, etc for the ITIL details or even the ISO20k, 27001, etc

Compliance is a part of management

In ye olden days, posting links like friendly-newbie above has would have got you stomped on by the people in charge. Is that all OK now?

And does everyone have to enter an anti-spam code when posting? Even when properly logged in?

COde spam - because we had some spammers

the hyperlink aint been removed - mostly due to us not yelling for the mod

...

There was a change request process for all this...

It's true: we are not perfect. We get nearly all of them though.

In this case the link has now been zapped, and the link spammer has been banned. We have also logged the site being link spammed, and passed it on.

But yes: please shout when this sort of abuse occurs... we will act immediately.

... Killing link spams by spammers is a good thing. I like the way this works now - on request - a few days delay is no big deal. I recall in the past having some run-in with admin over posting links myself. To me that made the board a lot less useful.

... Re having to enter a code for every post, surely that's unnecessary? It's a distinct pain. Entering a code should be required at registration time, shouldn't it? And the few who get past that hit by retrospective bans.
