It seems like all I can find is hype, and ads for training. Can anybody give me basic information, such as:

1) how much does the foundations exam cost?

2) how much does it cost for the certification itself?

The going rate seems to be around $145 for the exam/cert.

I'm not sure how much variation there is around that.... but I think that's the figure I paid!

wow...$145 for cert/exam, that is dirt cheap. The best i could do while searching hte web was $500 USD and the course i took was $1400 USD (3 days long with a great simulator).

Buyer beware...sometimes you get what you pay for....and if you want to take your ITIL certification further just make sure you are dealing with a reputable firm or training institute.

Bear in mind Wallop that the $145 was for the exam, not for the training.

The training was $199. The exam was taken separately.
