The Manager of Messaging Services leads technical staff in maintaining and developing a robust, reliable, and disaster tolerant email environment for Purdue University. Works with clients to identify and resolve issues, improve system functionality and identify opportunities for system enhancement. The manager provides detailed architectural designs of new and existing systems, technical consultation and support and directs policy and procedure for messaging. Will establish and maintain monitoring and reporting systems for effective communication of the operational status of the server infrastructure. Develop and manage the budget and capital equipment process required to support the infrastructure. Manage a staff of seven.

Qualifications

Required:
    -Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related fields.
    -At least three years of progressively responsible experience in Information Technology.
    -Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience.
    -Experience in large server environments and systems management.
    -Experience supervising technical staff.
    -Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    -Demonstrated planning, project management and supervision skills.
    -Knowledge of networking concepts, server operating systems (such as Windows 200x or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5), and foundational architecture.
    -Ability to conduct needs analysis, gather and communicate project requirements, review implementation plans, and accurately identify intra- and inter-departmental dependencies in project timelines.
    -Ability to lift and carry 10 pounds frequently and 20 pounds occasionally.


Preferred:
    -Experience with Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) or Activesync, Microsoft Live/Office Communication Server, unified communications experience, and familiarity with connecting a variety of clients to messaging services.
    -In depth knowledge of messaging server software (such as MS Exchange 2003/2007 or Sendmail 8.14), mail transfer agents, electronic mail protocols (such as SMTP, MIME, IMAP, POP, MAPI, or X-400), directory services (such as MS Active Directory, OpenLDAP, or X.500), clustering and load balancing, webmail systems (such as Horde/IMP or Outlook Web Access), security considerations for application implementations, and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) concepts.
