How would a role of Incident manager be best defined? I understand it may vary from one organization to other but still would like to get some generic picture of the role and what can be expected of this role.

Only use generic descriptions for generic jobs.

A [specific] role of Incident Manager is best defined by determining the requirements you have for incident management, taking into consideration the nature of the services and infrastructure involved as well as the other service management roles that are in place, or are going to be in place.
