Greetings to all,

I have been doing research and decided to get ITIL v3 Foundation for start. However, I have still some doubts how this ITIL Certification would help me to take my current Career level to next level.

Any one in this forum, with a real life experience , and with similar background like myself, would be greatly appreciated. My target job will be IT Team Leader, CTO, Project Management, etc.

I am a System Engineer with 14+ years experience on wide range of IT areas, from programming to database, to networking. I have bachelor of Math, and Masters of Computer Science in USA.

Is there any one who has similar background that has accomplished to move his career to next level after getting ITIL Certification, ITIL Expert Certification.

Regards to all,

ITIL certification may help but it wont heurt

The foundation is basically proof

you can spell ITIL and under stand what it means
beyond that .. it depends on what you are doing

you say you are a system engineer

what role do you play now ?
tech ? tech lead ? mgr of technical teams ?

mgr of team lead ?

mgr ?

it depends

as for what path .. CTO etc

depends

what mgmt experience you have
what accounting and finance experince do you have

getting ITIL certification is not the secret to success in IT

IT is merely part of the big picture that ones strives for

the phrase

it depends

holds true

Dear John,

>ITIL certification may help but it wont heurt
Well, I agree on this completely. Having said this, I would say that I have been thinking same thing anyway, however, time and money that I will spend for this is not a small thing. That's why I felt to open up this discussion.

Here is my conclusion. I am sure that having ITIL Certification(s) and understanding ITIL and placing my IT experience into ITIL categories will produce a good result.

Thanks for your response,

Regards,

ITIL certification is good. However, do not work to find ITIL Classified roles

Find roles that you can / want to and use ITIL within the role - either explicitly or implicitly

ITIL is a methodology / a best practice / a way of doign IT & service management

ITIL, PRINCE2, PMP, CoBIT, CMMi, moduler programming, etc

each has its place in IT and each has its place in a role in IT

use what you can for your role to stay relevant, current and make yourself a cut above the rest
