Hi

Have you ever seen the film the Wizard of Oz? Do you know the scene where the house crashes in Oz? Before that point the images are black and white and dull. After Dorothy enters Oz, the whole world is colourful and vibrant, with lots of Ooompa Looompas running around eating chocolate, and singing songs.

Thats the best way I can describe the difference in my life between not having the ITIL foundation exam, and having the ITIL foundation exam.

ITIL Foundation exam / course / certification is like getting your drivers license. All it means is that you understand the concepts of ITIL

As for going consulting / contracting, in what ? You cant consult on ITIL as there are loads of people who have higher level of certification and EXPERIENCE in implementing Service Management using ITIL - a lot beyond you

So what area of IT are you going to consult / contract in... I dont know where you are, but the market sucks right now here in the UK - too many people / roles but it is improving

In addition, there are serveral other posts about the same question

Dodash, since you have sound basis of ITIL, it wouldnt hurt you to go for the foundation exam as alot of companies desire applicants with ITIL foundations, specially when the company is following ITIL best practices.

getting the ITIL certification is one thing and there is no harm in getting it
but... you have to be in an industry where you would use it otherwise there was no point in getting

ITIL is Service Management centric

So if you are in a IT oriented role where Service Management (customer service) is needed/desired/wanted/ required, then ITIL certification will help you.. and beyond foundation as well

ITIL foundations will get you a solid service desk analyst position Smile
In my mind, while you do need to get your certifications, you need to start working on projects that incorporate ITIL elements. Does your organization use ITIL best practices? Try to get involved in related initiatives and it will get your going. There is nothing better than practical experience. No offense, but a monkey could pass an ITIL foundations certificate.
