CCB vs CAB

Are there any differences between a Change Control Board and a Change Advisory Board or are they the same thing?

Without a specific context I would have to suggest it would entirely depend on how they are set up.

Since the meaning of the word "control" is clearly distinct from "advisory", then the balance of probability is that a control board will have stronger powers than an advisory board. However I get the impression that people are pretty careless (in the sense of not caring) about such terms and I believe many CABs have about as much power to control things as you would imagine a CCB having.

Now, if you find both set up and with a proper relationship to one another in a single organization, it might be safe to assume where control lies.
