Hi guys,
I was wondering... Can running a script on a windows server be quilified as a change request. For me it is not, because it does not change anything in the enviroment, it is just gathering some info....According to the process this should be a service call...
What do you think? |

It depends
The problem is that you have not given enoigh info
what does the script do
who is running
what is the impact to the server
is the server a production server
why is the script being run
and
what does your change mgmt policy say _________________ John Hardesty

It is a script that has to be run on all the servers that have Oracle.
The purpose is to list out all relevant information about the Oracle installations and licenses needed... |

what does your change mgmt policy say
this is the key point
if the CM policy does not define what is in scope and what is not in scope for CM, then it aint a policy
While this is NOT a change per se, this has to be run on various systems to get information
I personally would inform the CAB Board members as representatives of the key areas are usual present
and make sure it is on the FSC
but that is me. _________________ John Hardesty

Surely a script will be set up to run according to a schedule or ad hoc according to a set of rules or criteria.
So installing the script is a change; setting up the schedule is a change; setting up the rules or criteria is a change. but then it runs according to whatever has been set up and that is an operational matter. Until you want to change it again. _________________ "Method goes far to prevent trouble in business: for it makes the task easy, hinders confusion, saves abundance of time, and instructs those that have business depending, both what to do and what to hope."

It is probably necessary to take approval from several areas. Which specific areas is determined by the nature of the service(s). That is what change management needs to determine in each case. _________________ "Method goes far to prevent trouble in business: for it makes the task easy, hinders confusion, saves abundance of time, and instructs those that have business depending, both what to do and what to hope."
