|
|
Hi ITIL people
Can anyone tell me is it possible to prepare for the ITIL exam only from the book, without taking ITIL training?
I have heard from a few this is not difficult and that ebooks can be enough for preparation.
Please advise
Thanks

Hammad
You can take the ITIL Foundation exam without reading any of the 5 books, study the self study books or sit a course.
You pay for the exam itself
If you understand what the exam is going to ask, then it is merely your money
Other ITIL certifications must be through official sanctioned training _________________ John Hardesty

I dont think there are any legal free downloads that will cover the whole of the foundation syllabus.
Would your employer be willing to reimburse you for training materials?
I used the ITSM ITIL V3 Foundation Exam Study guide (ISBN 978 90 8753 069 3) and the CBT Nuggets videos to study for my Foundation. They didnt cover the recent 2011 changes, but I just used wikipedia to get an overview of the differences, and I managed to pass the exam with 100%

A salient point. If you desire the ITIL Certification should you not ensure that a) you learn the correct information from a valid source and b) you invest your time and money to do so.
Otherwise what is the point of getting the certification ./ knowledge _________________ John Hardesty

UKVIKING You have a point. Like open-source books for many many certifications, i was pointing to those, if i could get them, if the exists, for ITIL prep! ?
Could anyone please clarify one more point to me.
The following official ITIL book:
1.Service Strategy
2.Service Design
3.Service Transition
4.Service Operations
5.Continual Service Improvement
These the same books will required to be studied for ITIL Foundation, Intermediate and Master levels? Or there are other sets of books for prep of each ITIL level exam?
Thanks

All the exams are based on those 5 books, but they are not required for Foundation, ideally at Intermediate level one should read the book that fits that course (but 95% of people do not), and by Master, one would hope the person was motivated enough to read them They are expensive, at about £85GBP for each one. For Foundation buy a certification guide like the one that John recommended (blush).for about £17 plus potsage, and that is all you need _________________ Liz Gallacher,

Thanks a lot Liz. That's all info I needed. I will try to buy the book at earliest.
I was also wondering is there an official register of ITIL certified people? Also is there an official count available that how many people are ITIL Foundation, Inter, and Master certified worldwide?
Regards

Also, don't forget that many became "ITIL qualified" before the ITIL Foundation, Inter, and Master certificates came into existence. _________________ "Method goes far to prevent trouble in business: for it makes the task easy, hinders confusion, saves abundance of time, and instructs those that have business depending, both what to do and what to hope."

Diarmid,
Thanks for that. If I could find one of those people , I would ask them what book or what study guide they studied to become ITIL qualified |
