In ITIL, we have a life cycle phase called as "Continual Service Improvement." I wanted to know why it cannot be changed to "continous" instead of continual. Is there a meaning behind the "continual?'

This is a question for geeks and I have often pondered it. Continual and continuous are so very similar in meaning and it is not often that using the wrong one would lead to a misunderstanding.
If I understand it correctly, think of continuous as being applied to piece of string and continual to the tramp of feet.
