Consolidated Technology Services (CTS) is one of the newest agencies in Washington state government and is the utility technology provider for state agencies, tribal, and local governments. The Legislature changed how information technology is planned, developed, implemented, funded and maintained in Washington State government through the passage of ESSB 5931 in June, 2011. ESSB 5931 defines how information technology will be administered with emphasis on consolidation, efficiencies and using the private sector where it makes sense. CTS operates the current state data center located in Olympia and offers additional IT services such as:
Mainframe and Server computing
Network operations and Telecommunication
As the Server Services Supervisor, this position is the highest designated technical expert for server based computing and supports state-wide production server services and server infrastructure. Serves as the highest designated technical specialist of server Common Services which includes: Shared Web Hosting, Web Content Management, ListServ, Secure File Transfer, VMWare, Oracle, A La Carte, and Server Provisioning. Responsible for independently supervising staff who perform system administration and highly complex troubleshooting procedures on Windows, UNIX, and Linux systems that support state-wide, mission critical, common server services provided to multiple state, local, and tribal agencies. Responsible for the management of software products and accompanying hardware platforms associated with Microsoft Internet Products, Server Monitors, SAP infrastructure and other technologies as required. Provides advanced technical consulting to customers to ensure proper use of the software. Provides expert level technical advice to internal and external customers, vendors, consultants and peers; both in and out of State service. The incumbent in this position makes recommendations to procure hardware and software licenses to meet capacity needs; renew hardware and software for vendor support; changes to operational procedures for work unit; and changes impacting service delivery and cost recovery.
Five (5) years of progressive experience providing customer or technical support in information technology such as consulting, analyzing, designing, troubleshooting, programming, or installing / maintaining computer vendor software.
At least one (1) year experience supervising or leading professional staff.
Two (2) years specific knowledge and experience (within the last six (6) years) with VMWare and Windows OS support.
Skills to work collaboratively with Service Owners and line managers to identify and resolve issues and make decisions that support successful project completion and service delivery.
Proven leadership skills including the ability to make critical decisions, manage priorities judiciously, and communicate information to a broad and diverse audience.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related field.
ITIL Foundation certification and/or understanding of the IT Service Management framework.
Understanding of LEAN philosophy.
Specific knowledge and experience with ListServ, SharePoint, Secure File Transfer, Tivoli Storage Manager, Avamar, UNIX OS support, Oracle, and SQL.
Specific knowledge and experience with systems monitors such as SCOM, Solarwinds’ Orion, vKernel, and Insight Mgr.
Specific knowledge and experience with firewalls, VLANs, and TCP/IP protocols.
The incumbent in this position may be required pass a Washington State Patrol (WSP) criminal background check and meet all standards set by the WSP based on changes in technology and/or service delivery needs.
