Well !

It is time to think "out-of-the-box" when addressing ITIL future, specially that there is an onging effort to refresh the ITIL architecture, documentation, training and certfication according to what is now being described as ITIL V3.

While I don't recommend you hold your breath and freeze current efforts for this new version, I would urge you to think outside the costraints of the current version of ITIL, and consider in your thinking the overall objective and essence of ITIL as a best practice IT service delivery and support. Think of it within the overall umbrella of "IT/Business Alignment" and move beyonf the IT shell to think BUSINESS.

I wonder if you have been in this atmosphere as I did over the past one and half years debating that ITIL should come along many other topics under a bigger umbrella that comprises among other topics the following items

1- Strategic Planning at both business and IT levels
2- Balanced Scorecards
3- Business Process Management (BPM) concepts, techniques and tools
4- Project, portfolio and program management
5- Prince II Methodology
6- CoBIT and 6 Sigma
7- Corproate (and IT governance) topics including Basel II and Sarbanes Oxley Act
8- The new ISO 20000 (BS15000), and ISO 27000 (BS 7799/ISO17799)
9- Others

Through my past consultancy/professional services in these areas over the past 5 years or so, Iam very pleased to see ITIL (the new version) moving in the same direction.

So, open up and move forward. We are chasing a moving target !!!
