Hope someone can help -

I cleared my ITIL Foundation exam about a year ago. I have a total IT experience of 3.5 years out of which Service Management exp is about 1.5 years. As I understand, the rules for the managers certificate is that one needs more than 5 years experience. Barring the fact that ITIL SM certification may be tough to clear, is it possible that I can receive a waiver to this rule? Do they check if you have more than 5 yrs exp?

You might consider getting one of your practirioners certifications until you get a bit more time under your belt. Being a successful Red-Badger requires not only knowledge of ITIL, but knowing were a lot of bodies are buried. Each implemenation and organization is quite different, and ITIL needs to be tailored to work at each. This quite frankly takes experience. Bid your time, ITIL has been around for 15 years, and I doubt it will go away

Hmm, that's interesting. I am in a similar situation and was hoping to study for and take the management certificate the next financial year (2006-07) so that I am well placed to help work with implementationof processes. Is that an unrealistic expectation?

I think that you will find that the time served is in reality a recommendation, rather than a rule. I know several managers that have sat Foundation and then their Managers and passed. I also think that it is unrealistic to expect the ISEB to attempt tpo check where anyone has worked for the last five years.

After all if you take the course/ exam and fail who loses? You!
