Hi guys,
I have a quick question about the scope in the SS and SD exams. Are questions strictly restricted to SS on the SS exam and likewise for the SD exam? or is it more open ended with no fixed scope on what can and cannot be asked on these exams..
For instance, would you get any questions on Financial Management on your SS exam?
Appreciate your responses.
Thanks

I got a question on Incident management on SS which was based on a bank system with a subsidiary in spain.
the question was focused on writing a report to implement SM and include an outsourcer from India but there was nothing about financial managment |

In a word 'No'.
While the emphasis is on the core material for each exam they usually include a couple of explicit points of overlap in each exam and look for appropriate responses. It's not, however, a particularly complex or complicated 'cross referencing' - you won't fail a question is you can't make an expected link. |

It is common to have a question that spans both SD and SS in either paper, so you should be aware of this. In my exam some years ago, we were asked in the SS exam how a particular SS discipline supported SD. Some people misread the answer and wtote how it related to the rest of SS.
You may get a question which is about Service Management in general in either paper.
Mostly this should not concermn you, as long as you read the question carefully, as the exams are on consecutive days. If you should be sitting or re-sitting just 1 paper, you need to be aware that this might happen.
As a trainer and (new) examiner, I can say that many/most people who fail do so because they do not read the question proerly _________________ Liz Gallacher,

Liz,
Many thanks for your response, much appreciated. It really helps to see a post from an examiner.
I'll keep your points in mind.
