I am new to ITIL, after browsing through forums I have an idea what ITIL is.
I am interested in Configuration Management and Change Management.
I want to get a Certification from ITIL. If anyone can help me out which certifications I have to take would be great. I also searched Promertic Website did not find anything about ITIL.
Thanks in advance |

You'll need to get your Foundations - before you do anything else - Doesn't require a class, but it's recommended
If you want to move into Change and Config, you'll need to get your Practitioner in Change & Release - Requires a class |

Hi mquadri,
I will be embarking on the same process of sourcing material to certify in an ITIL Foundation Certificate. My best advice would be to obtain the ITIL books from the OGC(Office of Government Commerce), as the OGC are the main source/ owner of ITIL. There after to register to have an exam with the official examination boards, ISEB or EXIN. I'm not too sure of the details of when to right the exam, so any other comments are welcome. |

Hello,
The Service Managers ( masters ) would be useful to have if you have aspirations of a management role. As well as becoming a fixture in the list of required qualifications its a great tool to have in terms of detailed understanding of the interdependencies and relationships across the SM processes. One consideration may be your length of experience, suggested experience of 5 years has been given in the past, but hey its a guide and a personal choice.
Good luck aqnd hope you get the Green badge, for starters. |

@ GMB: I think there is no reason to wait for the V3 before embarking on a S Mgr certification trip. If you qualify the V2 S Mgr, you are most likely intelligent / motivated enough to study the new version once it is officially distributed, and the qualifications for V2 are equal to the V3 ones.
If you decide to wait, I would not expect to see V3 examinations before end 2007 - beginning 2008.

I am planning to take the ITIL Foundation and have following questions.
1. Whats the best approach to studying..
2. Recommendation if any, for books or study material
3. How and where do I need to apply for taking the exam in US |

One hint that I can give you "hsdesai" is that everything you know about IT business and how it works in your current environment, just forget that method. One of my downfalls to the exam, which I passed, was seeing how things were where I currently work, typically not the ITIL recommended way. There were similarities but ITIL questions are not targeted to your particular business, just remember that. |
