Since gaining ITIL accreditation Foundation & Practioner (Waiting for Service Management Results !!) I have never been asked to produce my certs. (Must have covered all the bases successfully at interview.)
Is it possible to check an individual's accreditation similar to checking a university degree?
Thanks in advance for any info.

You have an associated ID when you take the course with ISEB as well as the certificate.
Some HRs and Training companys want that number
Giving that unlike University degrees, you either can show you know ITIL by doing or you cant.
And with so many degree scams pnline.... _________________ John Hardesty

Many thanks. So does that mean it is not possible to check a potential candiates accreditation prior to interview. I have received many CVs stating ITIL accreditation / knowledge only to find candidates have been bluffing. Would be useful to look up the info as part of the vetting process.

That is merely a website where people post that they did the ITIL exam.
There is no vetting or confirmation.
Tomahawk,
When some one passes the exam, they get an exam result with their results with an ID code
If you suspect the education of someone, how do you resolve it ?
There is of course a privacy issue from the University point of view as well as the training
They should have an education section on their CV. Mine does.
You should see courses for ITIL
Foundation - 3 day
Practitioner - 3 day
Managers - 10 days
Also look what they were listing as their job. That gives a clue.
From what I understand about ISEB and EXIN, the foundation and practitioner can be online, however, the managers is not available that way
The roles and how they answer questions. _________________ John Hardesty

Tomahawk,
To my knowledge, there is no formal way to check for accreditation.
There is also no measurable marker to prove that you have implemented ITIL. Technically, you can simply hang the ITIL logo on your door and claim victory.

Actually there is a badge which says that you implemented ITIL.
ISO 20000 certification
While the devil is in the detail, ISO 20000 certification requires the 10 disciplines and the SD implemented
Other than that, there is consultants who will review your processes to determine the maturity model value for ITIL for a fee of course _________________ John Hardesty

Hello John,
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that ISO 20000 is not formally recognized by the OGC as its "bar" for implementation and/or compliance. If this is correct then, technically, you cannot use it as such and you can only use ISO 20000 to claim that you are ISO 20000 compliant.
To my knowledge, the OGC does not "govern" or spell out "compliance" for ITIL. You can literally place the ITIL logo on your door or put an ITIL white paper on your desk and claim victory (not that I would recommend these things, since I do believe implementing ITIL can add value, when done correctly).
Also, when it comes to consultants, you'll find that the measurement of maturity, implementation, and compliance is highly inconsistent and is not governed by any formal body. So relying on such is actually dangerous.
My Best,

Frank
you are correct in that there is no real way to certify ITIL for an organization
However, if you have ISO20000 certification for a specific scope associated with it, you pretty much have been audited for ITIL compliance and met the standard
as to whether OGC / itSMF /APMG or the body recognizes that... well that is another kettle of fish
The external organizations - consultants - would have to examine your company and processes to determine the ITIL 'ness' like they do for SAS 70, etc _________________ John Hardesty

| Let's hope APMG implement an online register of certified people. |

Hi All,
There is a "Successful Candidate Register" maintained by the APM group. I believe their register includes only APMG candidates for now, and not candidates from all examination institutes (e.g. EXIN). Please confirm that on their website (www {DOT} itil-officialsite {DOT} com {/} ITILEISCRquery {DOT} asp) as that may be subject to change.
Best wishes,
M Misra |

Hi,
just a few points
ISO20000 is the certification that you have a "quality Service Management" structure / system in place. Bear in mind that while ISO 20000 covers similar ground to ITIL it is not ITIL or its cerification - however achieving ISO 20000 is a good indicator that you have implemented "best practice".
APMG will now have a list of the certified people unlike in the past. This does not keep records of people that have passed exams before they took over. _________________ Mark O'Loughlin

One last thing
You usually get a statement from the grading board with your score and a shiny certificate
Beyond that
...
You have the training company if it is still around etc _________________ John Hardesty
