My company is rewriting its change mgt process. Can anyone give me their opinion on the following proposal:-
3 broad categories:
1. Standard (BAU change... no approval, only Ch Mgt view and reporting)
2. Planned (minor, significant, major - all lead times linked to whatever the change type is)
3. Emergency (48 hours or retrospective - incident related fix, preventative maintenance etc)
However, they are now thinking of scrapping the term Emergency and replacing it with 'Service Recovery', the lengthening the lead time to one week. This will include immediate fixes and p.maintenance plus urgent change which can be forward scheduled.
We would not have an 'emergency' category.
Reporting will be driven by lead time on Minor/Significant/Major and anything outside of the defined notice period will be labelled 'LATE'.
Any comments / critique would be greatly appreciated!!

Emergency needs to be reserved for those changes that are required due to immediate recovery situations. These would be driven by incident management and the desire to restore a service or execute a preapproved workaround. Emergency changes should be at less than 5% of total changes for a month.
