Could anyone explain the funimental differences between ITIL and MOF, I'm looking to implement ITIL but as im running on a MS platform it maybe wise to implement MOF.
That's a very good question, which I can't knowledgeably answer although I've got both ITIL books and MOF printouts sitting on my desk.
In general, I found the MOF books easier to read than ITIL, however ITIL went into more depth in the areas that it covers.
MOF also covered many areas (in some revisions) that ITIL didn't, such as Directory Services Administration, Service Monitoring and Control, System Management and so on. . .
I would say that for a more readable and free download, MOF makes a lot of sense.

BTW, I forgot to add that where ITIL is more of a way of thinking, MOF not only covers a way of thinking but it also covers more on how to act and do things within that way of thinking.

I agree with you my friend Guerino1 and I would also like to add some points too:
In a comparison between MOF version 3 and ITIL version 2:
- The base for MOF is ITIL
- MOF count practices for Microsoft's ambient, but it can also be used in hybrid's ambients too
- MOF adds some SMFs as:
• Directory Services Administration
• Network Administration
• Service Monitoring and Control
• Storage Management
• Job Scheduling
and more...
- MOF leaves very evident the revision points for continuous improvement in OMRs - Operations Management Reviews
- MOF have a life cycle, and ITIL only came to have a life cycle in the version 3
- Risk Management concept is involved with all the phases of MOF and your SMFs, through a Discipline
- MOf presents a Model of Process and a Model of Team
- In MOF the service Desk is a SMF
In relation to MOF version 4 (that will be thrown)
Same doesn't tend a lot of information the new version of MOF it already presents a new task for the beginning of the cycle of life of a project, the elaboration of a IT Business Plan
Thanks,
