Ok, so I've been looking around at different possible tools to use where I can jump start the creation of a CMDB at my current employer. In the past I've been with companies that relied on tools ranging such as Tivoli (13 gazillion modules that need to be installed for the darn thing to work...sorry i digress), Notes DB's, spread sheets (eek), and even those that depended on multiples tools for a "virtual cmdb".
At at rate, here I have the opportunity to start with a clean slate and do something right from the start. Given the size of the sheer size of organization, I have proposed a 18-24month plan to implement a CMDB and create Config mgnt process that is integrated with Change, Release, and Incident management.
Does a CMDB tool exist that can integrate with other Change tools such as Remedy where by: 1) authorized changes can be updated near real time upon change review & validation 2) Incident correlation can be performed 3) discovery of discrepancies in releases of OS, IOS, custom application code via audits???

Another alternative - if you have lots of dosh - is to look at BMC's Atrium CMDB - this is a federated CMDB - they claim that most discovery tools will integrate - Haven't got any experience but the demo's I have seen look pretty damn good. They also own / sell Remedy
I have also looked at FrontRange and Assyst from Axios - Both appear to have lots going for them. Both say they are ITIL compliant as defined by Pink Elephant.
