I am working as the Manager, Systems Management & Technical Support in the Telecommunications Department of a big University in Saudi Arabia.
Responsibilities include Supervising, guiding and coordinating all assistant engineers for Installation, Configuration, Testing, Commissioning, Management, Maintenance and Troubleshooting of Telephone, ADSL, Smart Card Access Control, Professional Mobile Radio and IVR Systems. Planning for the expansion in the network infrastructure, services and features offerings. Moreover, Projects Management: (Conducted preliminary study of requirements, prepared detailed specifications/RFPs/RFQs, scrutinized and analyzed the offers from vendors, managed and coordinated the execution and operation, technically tested and commissioned several Telecom/IT projects in the department).
My question is: Given the above experience basically in Telecom sector, are ITIL certifications (all or any of the three) of any value for my career enhancement.
Thanks a lot.

Many of the best pratices of ITIL also apply to the world of voice. A foundation certification cannot hurt. Good ideas, are good ideas where ever you get them.

Saudi Aramco has just invitied itSMF for an ITIL implementation and from speaking to collegues at the Helpdesk Show 2006 at Olympia (London) last week, it will be big..

I would say that yes ITIL processes and best practices will apply for telecomm department.

And as Saudi ITIL certified I am seeing the movement towards ITIL implementation in many large organizations.
