On 16th May, an article by Aidan Lawes, CEO of ITSMF international was posted in ComputerWeekly (dot com).
The article was titled: A new ITIL for the integration age
Apparently the messaging coming back from the industry is "if it's not broken don't fix it.' This has been interpreted as some as a lack of movement. However the changes are actually very interesting.
The basic process will remain the same but instead of being presented in discrete chapters each process will be discussed throughout all the new books. This indicates that each process will be presented in a much richer context, with Services as the central focus. This can be seen by the current working titles:
continuing service improvement
IMHO I think this a very welcome change, and really does underline an interesting comment Aidan makes at the beginning of the article:
I do not believe that there is such a thing as an “IT service” any more; rather there are business services, which are wholly or partly enabled by technology.
So all the work we have put into learning and becoming proficient in the ITIL processes will not be lost, but it does look like we might have a lot of that represented through a less ambiguous more service focused structure.
Worth reading for those who are interested in where ITIL V3 might be taking us..

I had a Quick look at ITILv3 reviews. I found that a lot of details are sketchy at the moment since the writing is still under implementation. What I would like to know is what will happen to the old books? Is there some kind of an integration proccess between the old and the new or is this a case of burn all the old and in with the new? How for example will ITILv3 address the models of Service Support and Service Delivery?
All questions that I'm hoping will be answered in good time
Regarding outstanding questions, we did approach the OGC V3 team, and TSO, offering them use of this forum to interact directly with the community. We also offered to set up a special announcement section if they wanted one, and a special sub-forum if that was their preferred option. Unfortunately, they declined.
