Please help me clarify this doubt: to which process does actually the software installation (release) activities belong to? Is it Release Mngt or Deployment? It seems to me that Release Mgnt delas with planning, preparing and supporting software installation, but does not include the activity itself. Is that correct. May thanks in advance.

Release Management controls the actual implementation.

4 primary elements to RM:

storage (of hardware/software)
release mechanisms (processes)
distribution (roll outs)
implementation (actual install activity)

Cheers.

Can you please quote the reference to support your statement from ITIL books?

It was out of the review manual from my Masters Exam. It is not listed as simply within the Blue book, but the information is still correct.
