can u tell me the description of those relationship types?
and i little get confused with relationship, how to chose the types, for example : server a connected to switch b, switch b connected to router c. so how to choose the type of relationship if between CIs are not directly connected.(router c and server a).
thanks,

In regards to your posts about relationships.
We have implemented HPOVSD v 4.5 as our tool for managing ITSM disciplines and have found the tool very flexible and powerful.
The relationship that we use are:
Connected, Contains, Is part of, Documentation for, Supercedes, Superceded by, Resides on, Hosts, Supports, Is Supported by, Uses licence, licence used by, we also have a few others but I am sure you get the picture here.
Predominantly most of our CI's have peer to peer relationships, and where relevant we use Parent/Child for example application B, is a child of Server A, Server A is connected to Switch A etc etc.
The relationships between your CIs can vary depending on the depth of your CMBD. In my opinion they must be of importance for troubleshooting and impact analysis. Here are a few:
- Connected to
- Hosted in the same VLAN/Part of the same security zone
- Have same vendor/HW type
- Use "specific" remote SMTP engine (or any other app, activities on the server running the SMTP server will affect x,y,z,...)
- Have same owner
- Can be accessed by public/internet users
- Connected to SAN
- Part of cluster "A"
- Included in the disaster recovery plan
