The blue book suggests the separate relationships between CIs and RFCs and CIs and Change Records. Does anyone uses separate change records that are neither part of RFCs nor Release documentation? _________________ Krzysztof (Chris) Baczkiewicz

This was always a rather funny subject when brought up in class.
In the modern world, the RFC is itself a a type of Change Record. But remember that ITIL was invented prior to sophisticated tools. In that time, an RFC could have been a piece of paper, or an electronic form, or an email. Any of which would be completely outside of the Change Management software package. In fact, the Filtering activity of the Change Management process may have stopped a RFC from ever becoming a Change Record.
In modern Change Management applications, anyone who logs into the app and submits a RFC has, in fact, created an un-approved Change Record.
That was at least our understanding of the separation between RFCs and Change Records.
