Good evening;

Can anyone give me some general guidelines, or ITIL recommendations for computing ROI for IT projects? I know the PMI uses a basic ROI and NPV formula. I'm curious about what else may be popular and in practice. I'm looking into scoping a project to compute financial metrics for IT projects.

Based on my understanding, projects financial success is calculated in ITIL based on the ROI and the ROCE. However, you can use any method you'd like and include it in your IT Financial Management process.

Regards,
Z!

NPV is very accurate but requires, in my opinion, pretty advances ITIL practices, especially with regards to Financial management.

ROI is a more "basic" approach but can still be appropriate, especially if the company is not far advanced in ITIL' Financial management.
