I'm a newbie to ITIL. I'd like to ask: what type of companies will benefit from ITIL? For example, do beneficiaries limited to companies that are software vendors in one way or other?

ITIL is about how any company can improve their ability to support the business functions by improving the delivery of IT services.

It is non-industry specific.

In fact it could be argued that the greatest benefits can be gained from companies whose focus is not high tech related. These are the industries where there is the least alignment of IT and the business.
