ITIL V3 - 22 Points To Diploma

Good Morning,

I am trying to work my way through the new requirement of 22 points to receive an ITIL Diploma in ITIL V3. Foundations remain the same and then the path becomes convoluted.

Maybe I am being a bit dense but who in the world (corporate world) cares about twenty two points enough to spend the dollars to get someone (staff) there. And who, having been told they have a universal qualification in V2, would care enough after spending all of those dollars to re-certify (bridge as it is now called)

Would'nt it be quite simpler to use something with a bit more clarity like say balanced scorecard and get away from this complexity that I think has now been relegated to a flavor of the week status.

I'm sure they spent countless hours looking at what was best, the question is best for whom. Best for the ITIL community or the examining body (just more dollars to be gathered for recerts). I luckily have a company that will pay for my exams and some training, but to recert if you had to put your own money on the table, unlikely. The ITIL community will certainly recognize v2 certs for some time. Why not just ignor v3 and stay on v2 for now, it may make more sense for now.

I'm in favor of changing the way the service manager exam works; it was very difficult to pass. Not that difficult is bad, I feel I earned it, but I know a few who will likely never pass, simply because they aren't good exam writers. There doesn't seem to be an alternative. Unfortunately there isn't an easy answer to this one either.

I certainly don't want the job of re-designing the certification process. I guess I'll accept it and see how it works going forward; and yes I'm likely to bridge my service manager cert into v3 credit.
