Hi All,

I have a question, somewhat differenct from regulart ITIL discussion.

What is a Command Center in Services Business? And how far is it related to the best practised of ITIL, like Continuity Management, or Disaster and recovery planning?
Thanks & Regards,

Hello Tarun,

A "Command Center" or what is more commonly referred to as a "Command, Control & Communications center" is a centralized place from which a person, group of people, or larger organization can manage things that are going on, in their business. There are many types of CCCs that get created for many purposes.

For example, in the event of a major tactical Incident, many enterprises will require that the most critical personnel are connected through things like a conference bridge, where the leaders will be in one room, working to coordinate the work that is necessary to correct the situation.

A more strategic example, which I believe aligns with what you might be asking about, is when businesses use a centralized room or facility to manage the business activities associated with that business.

Imagine things like...

  • one place from which you can see the information you need to make decisions.
  • one place that all communications comes into or out of
  • one place from which decisions can be made and commands can be issued to those in the field that are doing the work

A CCC is very much like a flight control tower in an airport. From one place you can see, manage and coordinate everything that needs to go on at that airport to ensure that planes can take off and land safely.

Our own firm builds a web-based CCC for enterprises, which represents a centralized set of tools and technologies that allow them to manage all operational activities from one place. In other words, it's an ITIL platform on steroids. Feel free to take a look at: http<://www.>

Anyhow, I hope this helps.

My Best,
