Looking for career advice and views from experienced UK ITIL’ers.

I have a red badge (with a distinction!) and am currently permanent as a PM / consultant on a service improvement programme.

I want to move from project type work and move into something more cerebral, and at the same time sort out my work / home balance (in favour of home I hasten to add) working P/T and the thought of working for the ISEB or EXIN is something that intrigues me. However I don’t know how one makes that initial approach or gets their foot in the door so to speak.

Has anyone else gone through a similar career struggle and / or has anyone else worked for any of the above organisations in some capacity, and are happy to share some of your experiences?

I don't think there are many openings with ISEB or EXIN, even the exam setting and marking work (which would fit your requirements) will be going soon with V3. You could become a part-time trainer, or a consultant, if you have the experience to go with the red badge. Freelance trainers often only work 3 days/week, and can choose which weeks they do not want to work.

Liz

Thanks for your advice. You pretty much confirmed my views on the subject.

Would you be interested in Training ITIL ?

You would probably need to start upgrading to V3 soon as most of the training companies will be doing only V3 soon. Or at least when the ISEB and APMG get the exams sorted out as I dont think they have them ready for the practitioners or the new managers certificate yet. But V3 foundation is being taught now.

Depends on how much work you need to keep yourself ticking over.

Foundation is a 3 day teach and the practitioners are 5 day teaches. Sometimes there is a lot of work other times not.

Let me know if you would be interested and I can give you more information.
