Hello,
I am preparing to take my V2 Managers exams in a few days. I am struggling with some example questions related to Financial Management for IT Services.
Does anyone have suggestions for how best to present an answer to a question of the type "describe a cost model for service x" or "describe a cost model for customer y"?
Whilst a table and/or a diagram can be very useful, the marker will be looking for specific points, which are harder to find in a diagram (not so bad in a table). Some candidates spend ages reproducing a diagram which they have memorised, whether it is relevant to the answer or not (the ITSCM on is a favourite!)
So, by all means augment you answer with a clear diagram, correctly labelled, but most marks will be gained in the explanation in the accompanying text - so for a particular customer, what cost elements would be assigned to them (HW, SW, Accommodation, People, Transfer,External ), would these be direct, indirect or unabsorbed. How would they be apportioned (per head, by usage etc.) Give examples of all types and you will not go far wrong.
But most importantly, before you regurgitate your carefully learned cost model, check that that is what the question is actually asking for!! _________________ Liz Gallacher,
