|
|
Hi,
I'm looking for a mass SMS tool for incident notifications and was wondering whether anyone has any experience or recommendations.
I don't mind whether it's web based or an application.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi Sanj,
I implemented one of these in my last job and it worked quite well. I can't remember the name of it but I'll find out and let you know.
Pros:
Easy to implement.
Keeps people up to the minute.
Can keep your senior people informed (both IT and business side) and they like that sort of thing.
Cons/risks/considerations:
Costs a little but not too bad I think.
If the message is bad then it'll just undermine the Service Desk's reputation. It MUST be in a consistent format, quote the incident ref and be written in good English/French/Urdu etc.
It cannot be open to lots of people to use, only designated, reliable team members e.g. Service Desk Team Leader, and it must be built into the Incident Management process so people only receive messages at useful times.
Go for it.
Cheers,

Thanks for that, it's really helpful and definitely some valid points to consider.
The system will compliment a current email notification system so the format etc will be consistent and concise. There seem to be a lot of options available but I rather try something recommended by a pier.
I'd really appreciate it if you could find out the name of the system that you've previously used.

Hi,
alarmpoint and telelert are to big tools. Take some configuring to get going. There are others but these come to mind. Have a search in google also to see some of the other options. _________________ Mark O'Loughlin

Sanj,
I tried to post the name of the service I used but message was removed - you can't advertise products on this site apparently.
I'm sure if you search on line you'll find one to suit your needs. Just ensure that if it's web based you have a resilient internet link otherwise how will you inform people if you can't access it yourself (learnt from painful experience!) .
Good luck,

Thanks for the replies guys.
There seem to be a few free trails available so I'll test a few before making a decision.
Thanks again.
