Policy writing

Hey all,

I hope this is the right forum for this, but can anyone recommend a good book\resource for improving\learning policy writing?

Hi Davey,

I think a good grasp of the English language (or whethever your primary language is), being able to clearly & simply express yourself, and way of thinking that orders things in a logical way is probably all you need for good policy writing.

If it works for you and your org, it doesn't matter if it looks nothing like anyone else's or a 'standard'.

Skinnera's final line is worth picking up on.

You should agree with your organisation what is in the scope of policies, procedures etc.

So far all the books I've seen on the subject have been over wordy and more about producing a lot of pages then a succinct policy.

Thanks for your replies. I think it was more of a resource for where to start with writing policies in general I was after. I understand what you are both saying, but - and I am guessing here - I would have thought there are general "templates" for what a policy should look like? My organisation is quite immature when it comes to policies and procedures, so examples are hard to come by and and a little "shoddy" to say the least.

So what you are saying is that there is no corporate standards for documents - no policy on policies

do a yahoo search on user acceptance policy or access policys look to universities

i found they usually post their internet use policy on line
