Hi all,
Right now I am working as system administrator in some company. Actually I was wondering how I should penetrate into one of the ITIL process. I tried searching job websites but all the openings were for experienced candidates. And I don’t have experience in ITIL. Can anyone advice how to get into it as a fresher or with irrelevant experience?

As a system admin, you are doing one aspect of ITIL - managing the system
do you manage what is done to your systems and do it
do you get involved in trying to figure out when things go wrong
does the service desk contact you to restart/reboot/patch/ fix the service
do you manage the configuration of the system
change / release
incident / problem
incident / problem
configuration
do you manage the service hours of the systems - Service level management
do you manage hard drive space and getting more if needed
capacity
does your system depend on other system etc to determine its hours
availability
do you have a plan if there is no power in building or city or site
continuity
the only i dont state is financial - do you cross charge for use

^^ does IT admin/IT support experience count as ITIL experience even if the IT organization does not explicitly follow the ITIL processes. For instance, the tickets logged are classified as problems, requests, change etc. but the definition of these terms differs from what ITIL prescribes.

here you run into a conundrum. Properly speaking organizations want people with good service management experience and understanding. ITIL is their shortcut. It presents a hurdle to experienced people whose employing organization "don't do ITIL" (or not very well).
To get past this hurdle you have to demonstrate to them that you "know Service Management" and you know ITIL even if you have not explicitly practiced it. Obviously getting certificates helps a lot with that.
The short answer to your question is obviously "no" but it begs the question of what is ITIL experience. For my money, ITIL experience is something you get on training courses and seminars etc. Service Management experience is something you get doing a Service Management job. And the two complement one another.
