How can IT Service Management be applied on logistics? Which services of a logistic department can be managed by ITIL?
In my opinion, the logistic-services are only a part in the service-chain as far as second level support is concerned.
But has the repair of a system by exchanging a component by logistic-staff really to do with IT Service Management? Or are there rather other processes to be regarded? (Such as Application - or ICT-Infrastructure Management also is a section next to Service Management).
I tend to regard the latter as valid. Who can give me expert advise? Thanks in advance.
ITIL is a IT Service Managent Program which Helps to Align Business and Technology as far as possible. ITIL can help in logistics by helping manage all the processes only. It is not a rule set. therefore u will need to study the processes ur company adopts to handle. New Spares, Good Spares, Defectives, Defectives on Repair, Unrepairable Spares. Based on this u will need to develop a Process which will go down to a level of Configuration Item which is feasible.

Logisitics would fall under Change-Config(Asset Magmt)-Release processes. The inventory control aspects of logisitics have a clear mapping to the above processes. The CMDB is equivalent to a warehouse or physical item store; Change and Release are the processes used to move items in and out of inventory. Really the entire ITSM framework maps very well to many of the manufacturing processes and related methods (production planning, logistics, inventory control). The nice thing about ITSM is its flexibility to map to existing processes and methods (such as logistics).
