Like UKViking stated, there is a Known Error. I have never heard of a Known Problem. Do you have an example of how you have heard it used? Just curious as to how people refer to it as I've never heard it in any ITIL discussions.

A known problem is a problem for which there is a formal problem record and for which the underlying cause has not been removed or otherwise addressed, thus allowing the problem record to be formally closed.
A known error is a formally recorded defect in the system and is typically related to a problem record. This relationship will be mandatory if the Problem Management policy requires it to be so. _________________ "Method goes far to prevent trouble in business: for it makes the task easy, hinders confusion, saves abundance of time, and instructs those that have business depending, both what to do and what to hope."
