Hi, I am a IT manager for a help desk with only a couple of employees. We don't have a comprehensive tool for service management (like Remedy). Are there any low cost/free tools to provide us with this capability? What are you using in your SMB environment.
Thanks |

While I dont usually do this.. you asked and i do know of a tool that is relatively low cost
check out blue web software
one word - net and co.uk - are their info sites.
A sample demo is on the com version
I am involved with the company as part of the owner group .. but I do not have anything to say about sales / etc prices.
Check it out. _________________ John Hardesty

Another option would be Sysaid. They have just released a new version that has some ITIL capabilities.
Please note, that I am no way involved with the manufacturers of this product, however I have used it and found it to be quite reliable.
Cheers. |

A word of caution.
Make sure you have a clear specification of what you actually require before looking at demos etc. However low the apparent cost (even zero), if it turns out unsuitable you will suffer way beyond acceptable.
It might be missing something you need.
It might force you to do something you don't want.
It might just be horrendously difficult to use.
It might lack support (at a price you can afford).
It might lack a future.
I know absolutely nothing about these products and they (at least) equally might be the bees knees. That's why you have to understand what you want first. _________________ "Method goes far to prevent trouble in business: for it makes the task easy, hinders confusion, saves abundance of time, and instructs those that have business depending, both what to do and what to hope."

Diarmid is absolutely correct
Every tool needs to be looked at in terms as he states
even the only I rarely shill for (my own)
You need to define your requirements - the must have, nice to have, need to have
and then look at the budget figures - even a low cost tool - (freeware etc) may have hidden costs - support, etc etc _________________ John Hardesty

Inrepose, you seem to know what you're talking about and that's very good.
But you're a newbie here and don't know that links aren't allowed, ITILADMIN will be removing it. You'll need to provide very strong search words).

Yes I was naughty and did not read the FAQ on linke, thanks for responding and not just deleting my account. I did not realise the issues faced here with spammers and such. I am now officially link free and looking forward to posting. _________________ Robin Fitton. |
