Several years ago, I was putting together a paper to management on the ROI of implementing change, configuration and Release mgmt processes. I came across some research that presented the error rate difference between automated procedures and manual procedures. I will be darned if I can find it now.
Can anyone point me to anything like this?

I am just trying to convince high management of the advantages of having a tool to automate our ITIL processes, instead of running them manually.

So I would be also very interested in that kind of research you are looking for...

There are some articles on ROI available on the IT Process Institute (itpi.com) site. You just have to hunt a little bit.
