Posted: Sun Feb 08, 2009 8:54 pm Post subject: SLM Sample Report Needed
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this community and this is my first post. I hope I will enjoy and benefit from your expertise, and contribute in whatever I can.
Would anyone have an XL sample of how a short & Sweet SLM report should look like?
I work for a conglomerate which runs many businesses and has 1000+ IT users. And we register in average 1000 tickets monthly.
I look it up in Google but didn't find. Maybe you could change the confidential data in your report and give me the amended copy as a template. I'd appreciate it from you.

Ala
Short & Sweet SLM (single latin male?)
I am so sorry //you are in the wrong forum
S&S SLM (service level mgmt) report
I am so sorry// The report that any of us use would not mean a thing to you
The report should be what you need
Second, why cant you write one up off the top of your head...
after gathering what info is wanted, needed, and able to be collected
in other word... do your own work. I produce reports form my company as part of GETTING PAID for my role.
You are being paid aren't you ?
You have said you work for a coglomorate w/ many businesses and 1000+ of employee
Shirley, some one has done this in YOUR company... or are you asking for it here because you are tasked with this and dont know how
Questions ?
Have you done any ITIL training ?
v2 ?
Foundation ? practitioner ? Manager's ?
V3 ?
Foundation ? intermediate ?
Do you have the V2 books ? V3 books ?
ANd finally... all answers to all of your questions are in chapter 8 of the V3 sixth book _________________ John Hardesty

I don’t accept your comments and find it impolite, and I did not ask you in particular. It’s never your business what I do or for what reason I’m asking for a template. _________________ Ala

Ala6782,
Thanks.
You do realize that my answer is NO. I dont have a template for you nor a sample of a SLM report for you to copy from. Create your own report for your company based on what THEY REQUIRE. Copying someone else's work may not give you the report you need.
Also, You also did not answer any of the questions I asked

Dear Ala6782,
Your words might be polite but what you've asked was dangerous!
Are you asking us to betray our company/employer?
And I think you yourself are a dangerous person
What i said is that since I didn’t find a sample on my search, I was wondering if someone has a sample and can send it to me. Otherwise if someone has a real report, then they may amend it by changing the real data or erasing it, whatever they feel appropriate, and that would make it like a template which can be shared with others safely.
If you understood that’s dangerous, then that’s just an interpretation which you’ve made it up by yourself. If I were you, I would have simply asked what a person means by their request rather than coming across accusing them based on a rigid interpretation.
I think you might be a senior itiler or whatever you might be, but with a very low social intelligence. _________________ Ala

Wow. I never realized that there are still people on the internet like you.
I mean.
A person who comes to a forum as a new poster (welcome any way).
First post is a request to give them something
When the 'oldsters' in the forum say no and why
You tell the first one (me) - that you are ignoring him
You tell the second one that he is unsocial
Try this one on for size.
1 - there is no ability to add an attachment to the posts here in the forum
2 - Why should any one on this forum give you any thing just because you want something
3 - what do you think is the purpose of this forum is ?
4 - Have you ever heard of ISO27001
5 - Are you aware of things such as Intellectual Property rights, copyright, corporation espionage, data protection.
6 - Are you so lazy, incompetent or uneducated or unprepared that you are unable to write your own Service Level Management report
7 - lastly, you have yet to answer the question about your level of training /knowledge w/ ITIL
8 - last lastly, I think you are not working in a company but are some sort of clueless person who is in a college or university course that is covering ITIL and you are completely out of your comfort zone
Finally, welcome to the forum. All answers are in the sixth book of ITIL v3 _________________ John Hardesty

I'll put my tin hat on here.....aren't we here to share ideas and give help and advice.
A service/SLM report is maybe not the best example because I'm sure most companies will have "Commercial In Confidence" stamped across the front of them. However the suggestion here is that if someone has spent some time producing something or has been through a particular experience then 'why should we share that with others'.
I can see the greater good in sharing ideas, advice and products if others can draw on the benefits.

The problem is that the SLM report template would best correspond in some way to the SLA. And apart from being generic (title, date author, period covered, service 1 details, service 2 details ... for example), what can anyone say about how another organization should do it.
I would have thought that working for a conglomerate there was more to learn from the way reports are already designed in that organization than from people who know nothing about the company.
Or, to put it another way this is not an ITIL question, it is a report writing question. Any one who is performing service level management will know what needs to be reported, to whom and when; that just leaves how to write it down. _________________ "Method goes far to prevent trouble in business: for it makes the task easy, hinders confusion, saves abundance of time, and instructs those that have business depending, both what to do and what to hope."

Yes, this forum is for sharing ideas, etc. But that is not want Ala wants
He wants us to provide him with a template so he can use it as his own
instead of telling use what kind of infor he is putting on his report and whether or not it is sufficient or what other kind of info can go on the report
the second is asking for help when you are stuck... the former is gimme _________________ John Hardesty

Another thing, we all sign intellectual property clauses. Reports I create are the property of my employer. I am paid to use my knowledge to create these among other things. I take my knowledge with me but not the artefacts.
If I give you a copy, that is breaching the clause I have signed which doesn't say much for my integrity and doesn't do much for future employment prospects. Also it diminishes the reputation of this forum.
Oh yeah, and it's dishonest and wrong _________________ DYbeach

I haven't signed an IPR clause with previous employers.
It just seems that quite often people on here won't be helpful if instead they have the opportunity of talking down to people less experienced.

BorisBear,
Not at all. And i dont see you offering to give him a SLM report template.
What I have an major issue with is posts where people merely post
demands for things like Ala did
And I abhor lazy thinking.....
Please note that on one of the other forums -StudentBe asked a question about IT Service and i was helpfull / not snarky. _________________ John Hardesty
