Does anyone have experience or recommendations for how to create multi-tiered hosting services in a single tiered data center? "de-tiering" portions of the active Tier 3 data center space seems wasteful so we are considering building into an additional area and provisioning to handle workloads requiring only Tier 2 service, therefore we can charge for only Tier 2 service. We can then single cord all of the equipment in the new Tier 2 area, but the real question is whether we can effectively/appropriately price the Tier 2 equipment to differentiate from the Tier 3 equipment. Big investments like the generators will still power the entire entire facility.
Has anyone run into this situation before? Looking for any alternatives we can consider to solve the dilemma.
