OK. I have got the education & certification path info from exin.

I work for a shared services provider, 500 staff, 38000 user installed base, growing to 800 staff and 60000 users (then hopefully back down to 600-700 staff as we mature/automate.

ITIL CMM level 3 is our general direction. ISO20000 compliance is a good watermark to aim for.

I'm the enterprise quality mgr reporting to the CEO (new role) and have ITILv3 Mgrs Bridge cert.

I'm loathed to rely solely on the external consultants and am contemplatying going down the ISO20000 Consulting certification path as I'm concerned with Org transformation, not just auditing.

My question relates to what people's experience has been in attending the training, doing the exams, applying the learnings.

Also, I mean doing the training beyond a bog-standard ISO20000 3-day foundation course, which I will certainly do. But should I go further? Liz?

I cannot answer your question, but I suggest that it might depend on what your quality background is. For example if you already have audit experience. (I found the IRCA auditor/lead auditor course for ISO9000 very useful - it certainly focusses the mind on the practical realities) If you have a strong background in that area you may want to be selective with the ISO20000 training options because you may find the parallels easy to grasp.

I agree about the auditing course - knowing how an auditor's mind works is a great help!
The itSMF Consultancy course (which I deliver) is limited - the course syllabus itself is pretty bland - mostly going through the requirements of the standard - although with a good group of motivated candidates, it can be very good.
I would recommend linstead ooking at the EXIN 20K qualifications scheme - it is more detailed, and develops people better. There are side-entry routes as well - your ITIL qualifications count towards this.

If you would like to contact me directly, I can give you some information about how to obtain help and mentoring for your existing staff, rather than depending on external consultants. This helps overcome the problem of the consultant leaving, and everyone reverting back
