I am new to the whole ITIL situation except that I understand that a product we use in our helpdesk uses it in the background. Can you give me an idea of what certs are available for all of ITIL and specifically helpdesk?

The ceritification structure takes this format:
>ITIL Fondations (Overview of the ten core disiciplines from the Service Support and Service Delivery books)-usually obtained as part of a 3 day course
>ITIL Practioner (Discipline specific ceritifcation for each of the ITIL disciplines)-again a three day class
>ITIL Manager's Certification (sometimes called Master's) (Intensive study of all the disciplines, requiring three-five years experience and extensive knowledge of the disciplines)-a two week course with two four hour written exams on Service Delivery and Service Support
I would recommend doing Foundations (many vendors offer this). Then follow that up with the Incident and Problem Management Practitioner courses. That should be a sufficient start.
