Help required!!

Hi,

I have an experience of 2.5yrs as an Incident and Change management specialist.

I wish to move into an ITIL consultants role.

Does taking up ITIL certifications help me get into my desired role.
To start with, will ITIL foundation certification give me any leads to an itil consultants job or this can happen only after completing Intermediate/ expert level certifications.

Also, does an MBA course help in getting into such roles(if some light can be thrown on this too)

Any consultancy, properly practiced, requires experience rather than qualifications, demonstrable skills and knowledge rather than certificates.

Undoubtedly, having certificates is a help and almost inevitable on your route to capability, since considerable training is likely to take place.

If you think ITIL foundation will get you started, or that taking a further series of courses is all that it takes, then you do not have a strong grasp of what I mean by "properly practiced".

If your work experience has developed in you a demonstrably sound understanding of IT service management, then you are half way there, and getting some formal training, evidenced by certificates will undoubtedly strengthen your applications for consultancy jobs.

I would have more confidence in you if you talked about IT service management rather than ITIL.

As to the MBA. I won't say what I think of that as a generic, but any experience and training in business management has to help a little. also any experince and training in areas of IT technology has to help.

Why not apply for some consultancy roles and get feedback on what you currently lack when you are turned down? Besides you may not be turned down.
