iam currently in phase 1 loading all the data into CMDB and defining the internal process for CMDB . We have CA CMDB and it has got CORA algorithm ( 5 unique field identifier ) .
The process i proposed is as below :-
1. Mark the status of the ci to decommission
2. Rename the ci with dchts0111 (dcserver name )
3. If they decided to reuse the CI details
4. Copy the ci with different name and delete the 5 unique field from the decommission ci (as the system will not allow to create the another ci with the same 5 unique field ( dns name , asset number , serial number, mac number ,host name ) even if it matches with one field then the ci will not be created .
could someone qualify whether this is the best method or suggest something else ? thanks in advance .

it is YOUR responsibility to create the policy, processes and procedures - before you even consider a tool to use
How ever you want to do it your own busienss and you should write in line with how your team undestands the concept of Configuration management _________________ John Hardesty

The best method is that which fits your requirements, meets your needs, conforms to your policies, and will work in practice in your organization.
In other words, what John said. _________________ "Method goes far to prevent trouble in business: for it makes the task easy, hinders confusion, saves abundance of time, and instructs those that have business depending, both what to do and what to hope."
