I can't seem to get this point across and I can't find details in the available doumentation to support me.

I know I am right on this. What say you?

For an individual change., e.g. tech refresh of a number of LAN switches.

We have an approved change window. That is lets say 6 hours. We are unable to complete the work in 6 hours, but everything is stable at the end of the window.

Is ther any other acceptable approach other than document and close that change and raise a new change to complete the work that we could not complet in the "approved change window".

Also once the work has begun is there ever any justification for altering the change record, i.e., the change window?

Is this just common sense or is there something in the literature to support these ideas/principles?

ITIL does not care Scooter

It is your own CM Policy and porcess that defines this

In the specific action about 6 hours window and the work taking more

a) they need to put more people on the work
b)the CAB approves the work for the extended period - over the window
c) the CAB rejects the work and directly the mntwork team to do a) or fit in the window and escalates to senior mgmt
