Hi,

I am working in ISO9001 certified IT Department and I am aware of all the process managements related to ITIL and I am using those on day to day basis in my office.

I am interested to appear for the ITIL Foundation & service management with out taking the course. From where I can apply for the certification exams and what is the official site to register for the examination.

How realistic is this? If anyone answers this I am thankful to them.

ITIL Foundation you can do online without any training, ITIL Service Manager however requires two weeks of face to face training.

It's not generally known that ITIL management level certification explicity requires face to face training.

What is also not widely known is that your contact training time is part of the assessment.

One of my trainers described it to me: when you get that certificate it is meant to say to prospective employers that if they hire you as a Problem Manager, or a Service Level Manager or whatever, they can be confident that you can do the job.

This is why a pre-requisite for the certification is a five (I think it's still 5) year minimumm in an IT managment role.

Also the test (while independently administered) can only be given to people who have done their training with an accredited provider. This is because the trainers assess your performance in the training sessions, and have the power to dissallow you from sitting the exam.

It's more like a college subject where attendance, participation, and performance in the tutorial is a factor in your assessment.

Yes they are a little (flexible) about the experience requirements, and it imposes an extra cost on the participants, but it ensures there is some attention to what candidates can do as well as what they know, and we benefit becasue it helps keep the quality of the certified people high, and increases its value.
