A few easy questions:

1) Do the ITIL exams have to be taken in order? Foundation - Practitioner - Manager? Or could I take Fondataion - Manager?

2) How long does the certification last? And what does it take to renew the certification?

3) Is the cost for all of the exams the same? Same number of questions?

Thank you,

Walter

Foundation course and successful passing of the exam is a prerequisite to taking either the Practitioner or Masters/Managers level courses.

The certification is forever. This is not the PMP certification that requires you to maintain certain credits and retest every few years. Once you are certified, you can claim it for life.

The cost varies (see other post). The Foundation and Pratitioner courses seem to be priced the same (at least from my experience). The masters/managers level course is a tad bit more expensive. Since this covers both hte red and blue books nad reuqires 2 hand written exams over the course of two days this will run you around $7-10K USD.

There is an effort underway by OGC, itSMF, EXIN and ISEB to rework the ceritifcation schema to make it one based on a Foundations-Practitioner-, Manager's flow. Look for it in the near future.

My opinion is that you do the classes in that order. The first two really help you prepare for the Manager's exam and class.

one quick point I would like to make that most people do not understand...

The ITIL Managers EXAM cannot be taken until the participant has passed the ITIL Foundatoin EXAM.

This is a minor loophole which means that you can actually start the ITIL Managers COURSE, but you cannot take the exam, until you have fulfilled the Pre-requisite of passing the Foundation exam.

Whether you want to head in to a Managers course, without taking a Foundation course... well the choice is yours - personally I'd advise against it.

The Managers course assumes that you have a very good theory basis of the ITIL processes - and the Foundation course is the best way to get that.
