My change team is looking for a formal ITIL Change Freeze definition and can't find one anywhere? Perhaps there is no ITIL Freeze definition. If anyone has a ITIL FREEZE Defintion in use, please share. Thank you.

Now that the smart-ass answer has been given, let me actualy respond
A IT Operations Freeze - which is what you are after - is a senior management decisions to STOP, HALT, or CEASE any normal change implementations to your Produciton environment.
The purpose is usually business oriented and is of a short duration.
The reasoning can be varied
XMAS Change Freezes - this is done because the number of resources available are less than optimal - what with the holidays where the majority of the staff - IT, Management, vendors, etc - are on a reduced work load.
Business Product Release - This is done when there is a major business venture (new) that is being started and the business does not want the normal weekend (period) disruptions that occur when there is weekend change implementations or maintenance
So hopefully, these two examples will explain when to use one.
Now for the details
The CF should be of a finite duration - short period.
The CF should be decided by senior mgmt and told to all the IT types - project and operations that this will occur
The CF would be supported by the IT CM process
In addition, there would be allowed exceptions - very tight requirements to meet with senior mgmt approval to violate the freeze _________________ John Hardesty
